More than a year after planning permission was first granted, work is due to start on an ambitious and speculative project right in the heart of Glasgow city centre.

With work expected to start through the course of the early summer, it is hoped that once the full £65m build and office fit out office fit out has been completed, St Vincent Plaza will attract a high profile tenant.

The site, 303 St Vincent Plaza, was first granted planning permission back in February 2012, but the complex purchase of the site has only just been finalised by developers Abstract.

Speaking to the industry’s press, Mark Glatman, the firm’s chief executive, said:

“We are delighted to confirm our move to start construction.”

Designed by the Glasgow-based architects Keppie Design, the finished building will be a celebration of the modern office.

Consisting of 170,000 square feet, the Grade A space will have panoramic views across the International Financial District of Glasgow. Rated with a BREEAM Excellent status, it will have what is said to be a ‘striking granite and glazed façade’.

A ‘stunning interior’, comprising 12 office floors will be created. This will include a double height reception, an external terrace on the tenth floor and two further floors below ground level.

Nearly 80 car parking spaces will also be provided.

The developers expect the office space to be flexible, affordable and extremely energy efficient.

The construction is due to last two years and create somewhere in the region of 250 jobs, which will come as a timely boost for the industry.
