Beach hut with mezzanine bedroom expected to fetch a high price

A beach hut in Devon has been put up for sale with a staggering price tag of £245,000. Despite the floor area being only 23 feet by six feet, the beach hut on The Strand at Shaldon offers a fitted kitchen and a marble wet room on the ground floor, with a private patio at the rear. The single-storey wooden construction is completed by a bedroom on a mezzanine flooring mezzanine flooring level.

The village of Shaldon sits on the banks of the River Teign in South Devon, opposite the town of Teignmouth, and has a wealth of Georgian architecture reflecting its heyday as a popular bathing place for the rich and well-connected of bygone days. One of the most popular entertainments is the Shaldon Regatta, records for which go back to at least 1817 and which is now run over nine days in August, attracting a large number of visitors each year.

The beach hut has spectacular views over the village harbour and is being marketed as a luxury one bedroom apartment, with sleeping facilities for four people. It is one of five similar beach huts built at Shaldon, each of which boasts an impressive array of high-tech features – including weather-sensitive electric windows that automatically close when it begins to rain, underfloor heating and Wi-Fi capability.

The previous highest price for a beach hut made news earlier this year when a similar beach hut in Dorset was sold for £170,000.
