Sixty new jobs are to be created in the Midlands town of Walsall, after one of the country’s discount stores announced plans to build a new facility with 44,000 sq ft of warehouse flooring warehouse flooring.

JTF will start work on the project at the town’s Bescot Retail Park in August.

The build will cost £1.5m and take over a number of empty units at the retail park, which have not been occupied for a number of years.

The plans have already been approved by Walsall Council, which will also see the creation of a garden centre. It is expected that the combined JTF depot and on site store will open in time for Christmas.

A member of the development team for the plan, Ben Copithorne, said that it was a great confidence booster for the retail park and will add to the other operations there, which include Farmfoods, McDonald’s, and Matalan.

He went on to say:

“With planning permission granted, we will now be able to complete the deal with JTF paving the way for £1.5m of investment and 60 new jobs.”

The planner also thanked the local community for supporting the scheme, which has come after a number of failed developments in the past.

Plans announced before have proposed the creation of a new Aldi store, while Argos also had designs on the site.

Despite government support, both of these proposals were ruled insufficient. The council objected, highlighting the number of similar stores already located in the town centre.
