A former car garage that was owned by the Ford Motor Company is to undergo a major office fit out office fit out.

The listed building in Hammersmith, London, will be transformed into a six floor office building.

A curved dome of glass will give the iconic building a modern and fresh new look, whilst mezzanine flooring mezzanine flooring will do the same inside.

The work, which will see three floors added to the building, is the latest in a long and colourful history for the site.

First built to make offloading new cars from the train more straightforward, French car company Citroen then acquired the building for much the same purpose. It was later used as an RAF storage and maintenance facility throughout World War Two.

The architects recognise the importance of the building and, being in a conservation area, are excited that the whole project will be a success. Key to the success is the innovation, with Roy Collado, a partner in the architect firm ColladoCollins, saying:

“This is an exciting re-imagining of an important landmark. The designs maintain the industrial heritage of the building and the surrounding area. The use of innovative techniques to inform and influence the design is something that we believe could really enhance the site.”

Innovation in office design and layout is increasingly being seen as important too, particularly to attract the high quality and high profile tenants the owners of the building are after.

When delivered, the site should have a capacity for up to 850 employees.
