A historic post office in Stoke is set to be given a new start after The Prince’s Trust and the City Council applied to convert it into a new state-of-the-art training complex.

Under the plans, the first and second floors of the Old Post Office on Tontine Street in Hanley will be turned into modern training facilities and offices. Team’s here will help give opportunities for young disadvantaged people in the area.

Grade II-listed, the building served as the community’s post office from 1906 until it moved to a local shopping centre five years ago.

If listed building consent is granted, the upper floors will add to, but be independent of, the existing training and conference facilities which are on the ground floor.

Having its own dedicated entrance from the rear of the building, a new lift will give access to the brand new facility. Designed to best current practices, it will include suspended ceilings suspended ceilings, office partitioning office partitioning and new windows.

An innovation led organisation, The Prince’s Trust will likely also dedicate time and effort into the office flow and furniture layout.

The chairman of the Hanley One Residents’ Association expressed his support for the development. Saying that it will bring great benefits to the area, Paul Breeze said:

“It was sad that the building lost its status as a post office. But anything that brings that building back into use has to be a good thing. It is a really impressive building that should be in full productive use.”

The planning application is set to be decided throughout August.
