The refurbishment of a large conference venue in Birmingham is moving forward apace, with the November deadline creeping ever closer.

The fit-out of Conference Aston is being completed at a cost of over £5 million, and with the tight schedule putting pressure on all involved, the works are being closely monitored.

Located on the campus of Birmingham’s Aston University, the venue is the biggest of its kind in the second biggest city in the UK.

As well as having new meeting suites with new office partitions and suspended ceilings suspended ceilings, the leisure areas of the site are also in for refurbishment.

It will be expanding both its on-site restaurant and professional kitchen, as well as the bar areas. The 52 hotel bedrooms that are popular with many business visitors to the nearby Science Park are also set for refurbishment.

The client is demanding a first-class finish too, with the director of the facility, Lucy Talbot, saying:

“Given the level of investment we are making, it is essential that the finished result is superlative.

“We are a national and international venue and as well as providing the facilities you would expect we must wow from the word go. This ambitious programme of refurbishment will ensure our offering remains world-class.”

The works are the latest in a long line of construction developments the university is rolling out in coming years, as it seeks to attract students and business visitors from emerging economies.
