Why do offices choose mezzanine flooring?

The way modern offices work today is far removed from years ago – with technology having a major role to play in how that has changed. The work being done is different too of course, but more than this, the look, feel and layout of offices are markedly different.

This is because the way an office needs to work is different and, the way we think about an office is different. It is not just a place in which to work. It is a professional space that gives workers the most efficient and comfortable environment for carrying out their day to day tasks.

Modern space

Today, the emphasis is on open plan, flowing spaces and airy, light and spacious areas. However, this can present a problem in some cases. For example, having a more open space in which to work reduces the number of separate rooms – in some circumstances, this can present issues with storage.

There is also a need for greater space in offices today, where shortages of cash and other resources make it hard to justify separate facilities.

Helping firms to answer all of these issues are mezzanine floors, which provide an intermediate area with a raised floor. Solidly constructed from steel columns, they often work as a balcony area with steps up, though there are many more possibilities available.

There are also a number of reasons as to why an office will choose to install mezzanine flooring mezzanine flooring.

Increased storage

Mezzanine flooring is ideally suited for storage, particularly in an office work space. From being the place to keep office paper and other stationery items to offering a place for employees to keep their bikes, the raised flooring helps take essential clutter from the floor space.

Media areas

Mezzanine floors are also ideal as working spaces and, with many modern offices being cluttered with printers, photocopiers and shredders, they are ideal for standalone work areas. It also helps keep intrusive noise to a minimum.

Break out areas

A new mezzanine floor in an office can also be ideally used for the staff members. They are ideal places to create break out areas, where workers can take a little respite from their daily tasks while remaining within the main workplace – ensuring employees are still onsite should they be needed urgently.

There are also a number of practicalities that offices consider with the use of mezzanine floors.

Optimising dead space

Most offices that do not use a mezzanine floor are wasting a lot of available work space. Unlocking this with a platform can deliver space and negate the use of expensive extra facilities.

With permanent and semi-permanent options, flexible designs and quick construction, the flooring is also extremely cost-effective. On top of this, installing a mezzanine floor is one of the more popular alternatives to moving to a bigger, more expensive office.

Completely meeting all health and safety regulations, mezzanine flooring is increasingly being used by companies in the UK as an answer to shortages of space.
